Coach Ditka for Governor?
It appears some loyal Bears fans and Illinois residents are sick of Gov. Rod Blagojevich and would prefer former Bears coach Mike Ditka to take a seat in Springfield. Ditka apparently was considering running for U.S. Senator in 2004 so we’ll see if he makes another move towards politics.

Five movies to look forward to in 2009
Here are a few movies I’m excited for coming out next year.
1. Watchmen – This is the most critically acclaimed comic book (earning a spot in Time’s top 100 books) and the movie looks more than promising. From what I’ve seen in the trailers and mini-docs, the movie is drawn frame for frame from the graphic novel.
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – As the series goes on, the darker it gets. The trailers really make this look like a good one.
3. The Rum Diary – Johnny Depp is reported to once again portray Dr. Hunter S. Thompson in this movie version of Thompson’s famous recollection of working as a journalist in the Caribbean.
4. The Soloist – Starring Jamie Foxx as a former musical genius and Robert Downy Jr. as a down-on-his-luck journalist, this film looks to be one of the best of 2009. Paramount was going to (and still might) release it for Oscar season, but decided to hold the project due to a crowded Oscar-list. This is strange, because I haven’t been too impressed by any recent releases.
5. Funny People – Judd Apatow brings out the big guns in his next directoral project. Starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan and Eric Bana, amongst other Apatow-usuals and others, this comedy-drama could be a breakthrough for Apatow and gang, going a slightly different route from their normal (although hilarious) material.

Goodbye “Deep Throat”
Thursday, Mark Felt, who was Bob Woodward’s famous anonymous source “Deep Throat” passed away at the age of 95. Felt was an integral part of Woodward’s (and Carl Bernstein’s) investative reporting of the Watergate Scandals that eventually led to President Richard Nixon resigning. Felt maintained that he was haunted by his involvement, but his integrity in doing the right thing helped take down a corrupt administration.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
Huge storms all over the country, particularly up in my neck of the woods, in Jericho, Vt. News coverage has announced that this is the “first storm of the season.” I’m a little upset with Time Magazine’s briefing on the storm in the Dec. 29 issue. It focussed on New Hampshire being hit the hardest (which is true, several of my friends from KSC don’t have power) and listed surrounding states like “Maine, Massachusetts, NewYork and other states.” Hello? Why is Vermont always one of the “other states?” We were hit hard too, folks. Is it because nobody knows about Vermont or is it just assumed that the Green Mountain State always gets the crap beat out of it during this time of year?
